Are you trying to get yourself into good shape? If so, there is a good chance that you are spending hours at the gym working with your intense weightlifting. When you want to get good results, there are some important things to keep in mid.
Remember that if you want to see the results that are so important to you, you need to avoid overtraining. Overtraining is something that occurs if you work to hard. You are not going to give your body the rest that it needs and you’ll find that weightlifting sessions that go too far are going to hold you back rather than push you forward.
To understand overtraining, you first have to understand that when you are “building” muscle, you’re actually breaking muscle down. You’re not building the muscle in the gym, really. Instead, what you’re doing is breaking down muscle in the gym and producing tiny injuries in the muscle that then must heal and repair.
When these injuries heal and repair, they heal and repair stronger than they were previously. Therefore, when you’re building muscle, you’re actually breaking down muscle first, and then letting your body rest and repair in between; this process is what actually “builds” muscle.
If you engage in too much training, you are essentially not giving your body time to heal. If your workouts are coming along too quickly and too often, you are actually stopping muscle from being built.
What are the symptoms of overtraining and what can you do to make sure that you are going to be on the right track?
When you are overtraining, you will find that you are no seeing many results. Remember that overtraining is something that is going to have several symptoms as well, so make sure that you take the time to stop and be aware.
First remember that when you are working out too much that your testosterone levels will go down. The more you overtrain, the more your testosterone drops.
You might also notice that you are going to put on more fat. This might seem somehow unfair, but it is true. As you work out, you will be breaking down muscle, not letting it heal and increasing the levels of cortisol in your body. Cortisol is a stress hormone that makes your body hang on to its fat.
Have you noticed that your health is taking a blow? If so, this is definitely a sign that you need to stop. When you work out too hard, your immune system is going to suffer for it. If you see that you are getting colds and flus more easily, it is time to slow down. Working out should give you less health problems, not more.
Have you started losing muscle mass? This sign should give you some real concern because when you overtrain, you are going to lose muscle rather than gaining it. If this is something that is happening even when you notice that you are training correctly, it is time to reassess what is going on.
How to fix this problem? It’s very easy, rest and nutrition are the key factors. When you’re bodybuilding, your pattern should be one day of intense weightlifting followed by one day of rest.
Work out one day and then do some light cardio when you work out on your rest days. Remember that you should rest your body between the heavy duty lifting that comes along with it.
Also remember that the food that you eat is going to be essential as well. Your body cannot build itself up without good materials, so make sure that you get lots of fruits, vegetables and lean proteins into your diet. This can really make all the difference when you want to look good and feel good.
